The nearly completed Whiteside Middle School received substantial damage late in the evening of Saturday, April 27th, when severe thunderstorms moved through the Belleville-Shiloh area. The storms produced a tornado which touched down in the adjacent Villa Madero and Yorktown neighborhoods, where it caused extensive damage to homes and property. The tornado moved directly over the new school site, heavily damaging the roof and eighth-grade wing. The tornado then proceeded on a east-northeast path heavily damaging retirement quarters at the St John's diocesan center and causing significant damage in the Hunter's Crossing subdivision.
