October 2002

Picture Day for the Elementary School is October 15th and October 18th for the Middle School.

We apologize for the telephone problems we have been having.   We have had two major problems, one being the new system has never worked as it should and two, the fiber installed to connect the two schools has been severed.  We have the fiber problem corrected and CTS will be making their repairs as soon as possible.   Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Congratulations!  Whiteside is in the top 400 out of 2300 schools in the Funding Factory Recycling Program.  Please help us to do even better by sending your used print cartridges and cell phones to school.  These items get recycled and turned into points towards purchasing technology equipment.  Thanks to all who continue to contribute!  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Brueggeman at mbruegge@stclair.k12.il.us .

Dear Friends and Family of Whiteside,

The friends of the Whiteside Library and the library staff wish to thank those who participated in our summer fund drive.  Friends of the Whiteside community, as well as families and staff, donated $2,820.00.  These funds have already been used to purchase materials in the areas of: careers, sports, geography, and science.  The new material should arrive in October and will be on the shelves as soon as possible.

In the three weeks since the library opened, most of our students have visited for research and to borrow materials, or just to read.  It is gratifying to see them enjoying this beautiful new facility.  Your contributions will greatly add to our collection.  However, there are still many empty shelves and more importantly, many subject areas that lack sufficient material.  Just recently the 7th grade had a research project on various animals.  We were forced to borrow books from the other libraries in order to have enough information, or even any information on some of the animals, for our students to use.

As you can see, there is still a need for funds.  If you did not have the opportunity, or misplaced the earlier letter, please take time now to give what you can.  Your check can be made out to Whiteside School with a note that the funds are for the library.  All money's go to building teh book collection.   We appreciate everything our families do to support the program at Whiteside, which in turn benefits our children.

We are hoping to have an "At Work" Weight Watchers class at Whiteside Elementary again this fall.  We meet at 3:45 on Wednesday afternoons.  Parents and family are welcom to join our faculty and staff members at these meetings.  If you are interested, contact Mary Hesdra at 239-0000, ext 2102.   Please call after 3:00 PM or leave a message on voice mail.
